Larian Studios Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The buzz around The Game Awards has been intense, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley shared an enigmatic image of a strange statue. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a completely new Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.

A Different Direction

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio stated ahead of time that a follow-up to its beloved RPGs is not on the cards right now.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be designing a real-time experience rather than another tactical title. For now, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it kicked off the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—traits that later were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its universe is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

In contrast to modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths that are viable by choosing a distinct build with a specific history of choices.

The series is also notoriously open-ended, letting players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, the RPG community can anticipate another adventure in this groundbreaking franchise.
