Cars in Germany's City Discovered Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Incident location Affected vehicle Area Law Enforcement
Police stated they were alerted by a resident who found a car in Hanau covered with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty vehicles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.

Vehicles, building surfaces and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Police report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored fluid.

The liquid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they reported.

Officers then found many other vandalized cars and building exteriors in the surrounding area.

Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement state preliminary tests show the substance was most likely blood from a person.

"At present there remains no clue as to its origin; investigators are currently not cognizant of any injuries in relation with the event," they stated.

City officials announced they were attempting "to solve the case" and have requested to the community for tips.

A senior representative said the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be resolved quickly.

"This event strikes at the very heart of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, mentioning the murder of nine individuals by a assailant focusing on individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
